100 Days of Groceries - Original 2020 Photoblog

100 Days of Groceries is a photography project, exploring the aesthetics of buying groceries, documenting mostly independently owned stores in which people can buy food; greengrocers, corner shops, newsagents, markets, butchers, bakeries, fishmongers, etc. Each post will document a different establishment. Some of the photographs are taken in passing, but some of them I visited specifically. Some documentations will be accompanied by text, either conversational interviews with the workers in the shops, or simply my own observations of the shop at the time. Read more about the project here.

International Corner Express (November 2019)

The owner declined the offer of interview but allowed me to take photographs. International Corner Express is located on the corner of Sidmouth Road and Hanover Road, which was a two minute walk from my friend’s house. After school on Tuesdays, his dad would take us to taekwondo classes on the other side of London. We only had about 45 minutes after school ended to eat dinner, so we would meet after school and walk to this corner shop, and buy three instant ramen packets: one chicken flavour, one prawn flavour, one curry flavour. We would cook them together in one pot, mixing the flavour packets, and then we would split it and eat as fast as we could before his dad came and picked us up in his car.
